How can I restore a stainless steel pot that has been burned to its original color?

The water that was boiling in the pot dried up and the pot was burned a bit and discolored. Is there anything one can do to remove the color?

Scrubbing really hard or possibly a heavy duty grease remover might work, but in all reality, I think you’re stuck. Burning is a permanent chemical change, so there really isn’t anything you can do other than turn back time.

Polish it with an abrasive polish.

You could try putting a little water and bi carbonate soda, available from the cooking section of the supermarket, in it, and slowly bring to boil. Simmer for about 5 mins. and then try washing it with a steel wool soap pad and hot water. It should come reasonably clean.

Try a silver polish, the type made to remove tarnish.

Try Bar Keeper’s Friend. Might take a few applications, but I’ve brought badly burnt pans back to life that way.

Get you a package of 400 or 600 grit wet or dry emory paper and wet polish it back to the original shine. Is available at most auto part stores. After all they don’t call it stainless for nothing! Good luck! F Y I the discoloration is only on the surface.
